A facial feminization surgery in NYC plan can include one procedure or several. Which procedures fit your plan depends on your facial anatomy, the features you want to change, your health, and whether to combine or stage surgery.

At our Upper East Side practice, Joshua D. Rosenberg, M.D. uses the consultation to build an individualized plan for facial gender affirmation surgery.

What Happens During a Facial Feminization Consultation?

You don’t need to arrive knowing the exact names of the procedures you want. A facial feminization consultation is where your goals become a specific surgical discussion.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recommends discussing your surgical goals, medical history, medications, and previous procedures. Your surgeon may examine and measure your face, take photographs, and use imaging such as X-rays or 3D CT when it helps with planning. The consultation should also cover your options, expected changes, and surgical risks.

Which Facial Feminization Procedures Can Be Part of Your Plan?

Dr. Rosenberg offers facial feminization procedures that address different areas of the face and neck. Depending on your anatomy and goals, a plan may include:

  • Hairline or scalp advancement
  • Forehead or brow contouring and brow lift
  • Feminizing rhinoplasty
  • Cheek augmentation
  • Jaw reduction or chin contouring
  • Adam’s apple reduction or lip lift

You may focus on one area or coordinate several changes. The point of planning is to select procedures based on your facial structure and priorities.

Can FFS Procedures Be Combined or Staged?

Depending on your unique situation, Dr. Rosemberg may suggest performing your FFS in NYC procedures during the same operation or completing them in stages. The choice depends on the scope of your plan and what is appropriate for your health and recovery.

Mayo Clinic explains that each person has a unique facial structure and that goals and expectations help guide procedure recommendations. Imaging such as a CT scan may also be used for some surgical plans. Because these procedures can create permanent changes and carry surgical risks, your consultation should include a clear discussion of benefits, risks, alternatives, and recovery.

Why Does Dr. Rosenberg’s Background Fit FFS Planning?

Joshua D. Rosenberg, M.D., is a diplomate of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology. His training includes facial plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as otolaryngology-head and neck surgery.

That training is directly relevant when a plan may involve the forehead, nose, cheeks, jaw, chin, lips, or neck. His practice also works with providers at Mount Sinai’s Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery.

I haven't the opportunity to meet the doctor yet, I have an appointment. I was referred by an ENT doctor in NJ, Dr. Douglas Leventhal, nice, young, excellent bed manners. Unfortunately he does not reconstruction nasal perforation, but he was very interested in helping me, and he referred me to a colleague in NY, and asked me wait a call from them, otherwise to call him back if they didn't contact me. Thanks GOD, they are very efficient and received, today two calls , I finally got to talk to Evelyn, very kind, and patient, gave me the appointment, I hope that my present health problem due to bad medical practice years ago, Dr. Rossenberg, can reconstruct my septum. I thank you from deep of my heart.
