One of the most effective non-surgical facial treatments for improving skin tone and elasticity is laser skin resurfacing. There are a variety of laser treatments that can be used on the skin to reduce pigmentation and help increase collagen production. Joshua D. Rosenberg, MD, recommends laser treatments for his patients looking for minimally-invasive options to improve the skin’s appearance at his offices in Upper East Side and NYC.
Lasers have been used in the medical field for decades to alter tissue cells. The technology uses light energy to interact with tissue in targeted, specific applications. For the skin, light energy or heat created by the light emissions can target darker pigmented cells to fade scars or other skin flaws. Other lasers work to stimulate collagen production to help rejuvenate aging skin. Dr. Rosenberg can determine if laser resurfacing is the right option for his patients to give them the results they desire.
Minimally-Invasive Laser Skin Treatments
Laser skin resurfacing can be applied to specific areas to target skin flaws or used over a large area for overall rejuvenation. The treatment usually takes one to two hours, depending on the size of the area treated. Most laser treatments are not painful. For deeper laser treatments, a numbing agent or local anesthesia can be used to minimize any discomfort. The skin may be red or flaky after the treatment for a few days, depending on the type of laser treatment used.
Laser facial treatments can address :
- Large pores
- Wrinkles and lines
- Uneven skin tone
- Pigmentation issues or flaws
- Lost elasticity
After laser resurfacing, the skin will heal over the next week and the revitalized skin will begin to surface. Darker pigmented skin cells will fade or flake away, and the skin will begin improving as collagen levels increase over the following weeks.
