Dorsal Preservation Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty has become an increasingly popular nose cosmetic procedure to help men and women feel more confident with their facial appearance. If you have a large bump or desire to lift the tip of your nose, you may be considering rhinoplasty to improve the way you look. Before you decide to invest in altering your appearance, it is beneficial to understand the nuances involved in this type of procedure.

Rhinoplasty can vary in surgical techniques to alter the shape and size of the nose. This can provide advantages and disadvantages, depending on what methods are used. Dorsal preservation rhinoplasty is an updated approach to nose surgery to help improve facial balance and aesthetics without disturbing the natural structure and support mechanisms. Here is everything you need to know about this procedure and how it can benefit you.

How Preservation Rhinoplasty Differs

Conventional rhinoplasty offers excellent results to help a person enhance their overall appearance. This cosmetic procedure does have some disadvantages. During surgery, the hump of the nose is shaved down. This can disrupt natural aesthetic dorsal lines and weaken the structures necessary for nasal breathing. Surgical techniques used during conventional rhinoplasty can lead to asymmetry and irregularities. This can increase the risk of needing revision rhinoplasty in the future to correct any complications.

Preservation rhinoplasty differs by cutting cartilage and bone below the nasal bridge. The height of the bridge can be lowered without altering the dorsal lines. Essential support structures are maintained to create a natural-looking hump. The results can be more satisfactory than conventional rhinoplasty. The updated approach can speed recovery and reduce the need for revision rhinoplasty in the future.

What To Expect With Preservation Rhinoplasty

Preservation rhinoplasty can be performed as either an open or closed cosmetic procedure. If performed as an open procedure, incisions are made between the nostril below the tip of the nose. In a closed procedure, the cuts are done inside the nose to minimize visible scarring. The incisions follow along a particular plane of the nose to reduce swelling.

To correct a hump, small pieces of cartilage or bone are removed from the septum and below the dorsal hump. This allows the nasal ridge to settle into a straighter or lower line. Some mild bruising and swelling around the eyes may be expected for a few days after the surgery. You may return to normal activities after a week, but strenuous activities should be avoided for at least two weeks. The plastic surgeon may give you specific aftercare instructions to follow during recovery to help speed healing.

Ideal Candidates for Preservation Rhinoplasty

Ideal candidates for preservation rhinoplasty are individuals who desire to shorten the projection or remove bumps from the nose. These individuals have not had previous nose surgeries. The surgical procedure may not always be ideal for men or women with thick skin and soft cartilage or tissue.

A consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon can help you understand the benefits and risks of this outpatient procedure. During the consultation, the surgeon will examine your nose and review your medical history. If you have any questions or concerns, you can address these during your appointment. The plastic surgeon will use the information gathered during this time to create a personalized treatment plan for your unique needs.

I haven't the opportunity to meet the doctor yet, I have an appointment. I was referred by an ENT doctor in NJ, Dr. Douglas Leventhal, nice, young, excellent bed manners. Unfortunately he does not reconstruction nasal perforation, but he was very interested in helping me, and he referred me to a colleague in NY, and asked me wait a call from them, otherwise to call him back if they didn't contact me. Thanks GOD, they are very efficient and received, today two calls , I finally got to talk to Evelyn, very kind, and patient, gave me the appointment, I hope that my present health problem due to bad medical practice years ago, Dr. Rossenberg, can reconstruct my septum.
