The goal of hairline surgery is to create a rounded, feminine hairline. This includes lowering the hairline and removing frontal-temporal recessions that can create a M type appearance. In most patients, this is accomplished via a “pre-trichial” approach. A zig-zag incision is made at the hairline and beveled so that, as it heals, hairs will grow through the incision line and disguise it. The scalp is released and the hairline is brought forward. Frontal-temporal recessions are reduced or removed by advancing the hairline at the sides. The facial feminization surgery is often coupled with brow/forehead contouring and brow lifting as this “pre-trichial” approach is often used for these procedures also.
