Forehead contouring is one the most dramatic and important aspects of facial feminization surgery. Reducing the prominence of the central brow and bones above the eyes (superior orbital rims) is a powerful tool to create a more feminine appearance. This is accomplished by shaving these bones. A key part of this is addressing the frontal sinus which sits underneath the brow bone. In some patients, simply shaving the bone without entering the sinus is enough. Other patients need more reduction. For these patients, the frontal sinus bone is removed, contoured and set back in a new position. We perform this surgery using a surgical navigation device that maps out the frontal sinus prior to surgery allowing us to accurately identify and re-contour the frontal sinus bones while minimizing the risk of complications. We work closely with surgeons from Mount Sinai’s Sinus and Skull Base surgery program to ensure patients obtain the best possible results in the safest possible manner.
